OUR ETHOS

Òran Theatre is a laboratory theatre community dedicated to the artistic investigation of the human spirit and our connection with the natural world.

Based in the south-west of England, we are a cross-disciplinary, training-based company influenced by eastern European laboratory process, forged in community and emphasising sustained body and vocal training to enrich our work.

ART

We believe in art as a vehicle of personal and collective transformation. We believe in using all artistic modes of expression as sacred containers to hold and support personal process without judgement or expectation. Interdisciplinary is therefore a key element of our work.

H E R I T A G E

We work to discover new modes of expression that will reveal contemporary perspectives on ancient practice. In the UK, we seek to illuminate what makes British culture unique. By working with traditional song, story-telling and ritual we aim to invite a cross-cultural and cross-faith dialogue between peoples at home and abroad.

N A T U R E

We seek to understand the disconnection between humankind and nature. As the climate changes, we acknowledge that new work must be done to further understand the environment and fight for the survival of the natural world. We make work that uses theatre to voice the need for unity and connection.

E Q U A L I T Y

We believe in equality, that one group of people is not greater than the next. We desire to learn from others to expand understanding and deepen sensitivity. We champion inter-cultural, inter-faith and cross-discipline collaborations and conversations. We seek to engage with communities both within the UK and beyond to learn and empower.

C O M M U N I T Y

We believe in working together harmoniously with deep kindness, respect and honesty. We believe that the vibration of a harmonious working collective radiates from our community to other communities.

EXCAVATION

We work to awaken and excavate all the powers and sensitivities of the human being. Through embodied and vocal training, we aim to provide artists with a space to develop their skills.

HUMANKIND HAS NOT WOVEN THE WEB OF LIFE. WE ARE BUT ONE THREAD WITHIN IT. WHATEVER WE DO TO THE WEB, WE DO TO OURSELVES. ALL THINGS ARE BOUND TOGETHER. ALL THINGS CONNECT.
